Tbilisi. In the framework of the working visit to the USA,
Georgian Prime Minister, Irakli Garibashvilil, met with Senators John McCain
and Ted Poe, the government's press-
service reports.
At the meeting with Senator John McCain,
the parties discussed the issues of deepening bilateral relations, future
cooperation, trade and economic relations as well as prospects of signing the
EU-Georgia Association Agreement and DCFTA.
Senator McCain expressed his full support
for the Georgian Government and once again congratulated Georgia on the
successful presidential election. The
Senator expressed interest in the process of so-called borderization along
Georgia's occupied territories and pointed out that USA denounced the
installation of barriers.
Prime Minister, Irakli Garibashvili, expressed
gratitude to the U.S. Senator for supporting Georgia and expressed hope for
continuation of it in future.
At the meeting with U.S. Senator Ted Poe,
the latter promised his support to Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli
Garibashvili, in granting NATO Membership Action Plan (MAP) to Georgia.
Senator Ted Poe, as well as Congressmen
Michael Turner, Bill Keating and Eliot Angle, initiated the statement,
supporting Georgia, in which the U.S. Congress members appealed to U.S.
Secretary of State John Kerry and asked him to provide support to Georgia in
granting MAP at London Summit in 2014.
The Prime Minister thanked Senator Poe for
his initiative and stated that Georgia needed support in that regard very much,
especially from such valued friends as U.S. Congressmen and Senators.
The parties also discussed the
USA-Georgian bilateral relations. According to Irakli Garibashvili, the
Government of Georgia is confident that U.S. Congressmen and Senators will
continue supporting the country in future.
The meetings with Senators John McCain and
Ted Poe was attended by Foreign Minister of Georgia Maia Panjikidze, State
Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Alex Petriashvili, Georgian
Ambassador to the United States - Archil Gegeshidz.
