Armenia gives high priority to relationship
with Georgia, Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan said at today's joint press
conference with his Georgian counterpart Giorgi Margvelashvili in Yerevan.
Sargsyan said that development of the bilateral
relations is the pledge of stability in the region. "Strengthening the friendly relations with Georgia is a
priority in Armenia's foreign policy. I believe the difference between the
foreign political vectors, particularly, Armenia's decision to join the Customs
Union on the one hand and Georgia's initialing of an Association Agreement with
the EU on the other hand should not hinder the economic cooperation of the two
countries but should open new opportunities for interaction of business
circles", said Sargsyan.
He also stressed the need to cooperate within
international structures and to display a balanced approach to the issues of
mutual interest. "We agreed that the regional conflicts should be resolved
peacefully on the basis of international principles. We also stressed the need
to preserve the cultural heritage of the two nations", the President said.
In this context, he expressed his gratitude to ex-Prime Minister of Georgia
Bidzina Ivanishvili who renovated the Armenian church in Tbilisi.
