 Ilham Aliyev's statements are so away from reality that it would be not serious to make any serious comments on them, Vice Speaker of the Armenian Parliament, Spokesman of the ruling Republican Party of Armenia Eduard Sharazanov told ArmInfo on Wednesday, when asked to comment on the Azerbaijani President's speech at PACE, where he distorted history and insisted that Armenia was an Azerbaijani territory.

"It does not befit a president to make such a childish speech from such a high rostrum. Reading the works by Plutarch, Strabo and other ancient Greek-Roman historians would be enough to see that his words are groundless. If reading such works is too hard for the Azerbaijani leaders, I think it will be quite easy for them to visit Rome and to see a map where the borders of ancient Armenia are clearly demarcated along with the borders of Rome, Greece and other states of those times," Sharmazanov said.

He noted that it is not a secret that there were no such concept as "Azerbaijani nation" or "Azerbaijani language" before 1918.  "You will see this in any history textbook, of course, if it's not an Azerbaijani one," Shrmazanov said.

He refused to dwell on Aliyev's statements are as they is as far from reality as ancient people's assertions that the Earth is flat or Hitler's assurances that the ideology of his National Socialists Party was Christianity.  

Concerning the statement by Azerbaijani Defense Minister Zakir Hasanov that Azerbaijan can destroy any facility or location in the territory of Armenia but does not do it out of humanity, Sharmazanov advised the Azerbaijani leaders to learn lessons from their latest history instead of using empty rhetoric.  "All you have to do is to look back at the early 1990s and you will see how the Azerbaijanis entreated us for peace after their defeat in Nagorno-Karabakh's liberation struggle," Sharmazanov said.  
To remind, while speaking at PACE Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said: "Azerbaijanis have lived in this region for centuries, Armenians came here just 200 years ago. The Armenians have already self-determined by building the Armenian state in the historical lands of Azerbaijan. May be you don't know this, but the members of Armenian delegation are well aware of this history. One of the first decisions passed by Azerbaijan Democratic Republic that was built after the collapse of the Russian Empire in 1919 was that Irevan obtained the status of capital of Armenian Republic. That's they already have a country.  Now, do they have to build a state, wherever Armenians live? And, why such place must be in Azerbaijan?"
