The European Union is offended at Armenia and is preparing "punitive measures" against the country, the head of the "Modus vivendi" research center, Ara Papyan, said at today's press-conference.
Referring to his own sources, he said that the EU will not forgive Armenian authorities for the decision to abandon signing of the Association Agreement and to join the Customs Union. "The actions against several state functionaries are being drawn out, in particular, freezing of accounts in foreign banks and stopping their business activity at the territory of the EU", - he said.
He also emphasized that by such a decision the Armenian authorities deprived Armenia of an opportunity of economic development and entrance of the Armenian production the world market. He also added one should not wait for the economic prospects from Armenia's joining the Customs Union, as there will be obstacles when exporting production of Karabakh to the market of the CU member-states, as the status of Karabakh has not been specified in the CU.
To note, on 3 September in Moscow, President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan said about Armenia's intention to join the Customs Union. For this reason, the EU stopped the talks with Armenia on the Association Agreement.
