Tbilisi. Democratic processes in Georgia are developing in
the right direction, U.S. Ambassador Richard Norland stated on Thursday, June
20, while commenting the draft resolution of the U.S. Congress, containing
critics of the Georgian new government.
It is said in the draft document that the
measures taken by the Georgian Government against former officials and
political opponents, apparently in part motivated by political considerations,
may have a significant negative impact on cooperation between the United States
and Georgia, including efforts to build a stronger relationship in political,
economic, and security matters, as well as progress on integrating Georgia into
international organizations."
"The formulation, presented in the
document, belongs and has been confirmed by the Chamber of Representatives. At
the next stage the document will be considered by the Senate. It has the possibility to make changes into
this version of the bill. The world is interested in the way, democratic
processes are developing in Georgia. I'd like to note that the processes are
developing in the right direction", Norland told journalists.
As for cooperation in
the defense sphere, the Ambassador said that the document envisaged deepening
of that cooperation between Georgia and the USA
