Armenian Defense Ministry: One should not panic over Azeri fire at Armenian villages

One should not panic over the Azeri fire at Armenian villages. Armenian armed forces keep the situation on the frontline under control, Artsrun Hovhannisyan, Spokesman for Armenian Defense Minister, has told ArmInfo.  

To recall, on Friday evening the Azeri armed forces fired at the borderline Armenian villages Aygepar and Movses of Tavush region. Andranik Aydinyan, Head of the Aygepar rural community, says that on June 27, around 10:30 pm the Azeri troops threw a spotlight on the village and starting firing. The fire lasted till 1:30 am. As a result, the rural gas pipeline was damaged; so were the villagers' houses and property.  In addition, a fire broke out in front of a house, and the residents extinguished it with difficulty.  Aydinyan points out that the material damage caused to the village is currently being specified. For his part, Ararat Avalyan, Head of the Movses rural community, says that the Azeris fired at the doors and windows of the houses.  At the moment the situation in the village is calm.

According to Hovhannisyan, though this time the Azeri's fire was more intensive than usual, nevertheless, one cannot say that Azeris are going to launch large-scale military operations.  When commenting on the rumors that the rival used artillery shells, Hovhannisyan says that no debris of artillery shell were found in the area that underwent shooting. "In fact, they used large- calibre machine-guns, for instance, DShK. I cannot say why the Azeri armed forces were so active in this direction, nevertheless, there are no factors showing that the rival wants to launch combat operations", he says.
