Tbilisi. Georgia will not become NATO member in
2014, as for Ukraine, it has chosen out of block status, NATO Secretary General
Anders Fogh Rasmussen stated in Brussels on Tuesday, October 22.
"The new government of Georgia has
reiterated intention to enter NATO. But it will not happen next year, we will
cooperate in the framework of NATO-Georgia Council", he said at the
meeting with Russian journalists on the eve of the sitting NATO countries'
Defence Ministers and the sitting of
Russia-NATO Council, RIA Novosti agency reports.
He reminded that at Bucharest Summit both
in 2008, Georgia and NATO expressed in favor of the country's accession to the
Alliance. But later, Ukraine decided to
be guided by policy of not accession to
any of unions.
"Ukraine has decided not to pursue
policy of accession to the Alliance. We will cooperate with this country in the
framework of NATO-Ukraine Council", the NATO Secretary General noted.
