Tbilisi. Head of the Caucasus Institute of Peace,
Democracy and Development, political expert Giya Nodia does not exclude
criminal prosecution of Mikheil Saakashvili after his presidential powers
expire.
"Proceeding from the authorities'
actions and attitude, sounded by Ivanishvili (Prime Minister of Georgia), no
wonder they (current authorities) will try to institute criminal proceedings
against the President. Of course, it
will damage Georgia's image seriously and the country's European
integration", Nodia stated at the press- conference on Monday, October 21.
Speaking about possible reasons of
Saakashvii's prosecution, the political expert stated that Bidzina Ivanishvili
was personally interested in it.
"Possible, it will be Ivanishvili's
personal deal with him. May be in reality he (Ivanishvili) wants to damage a
process of Georgia's European integration and will arrest Saakashvili for it.
It is the issue of his motives and decisions", Nodia said.
The Ministry of Justice, Premier and the
Chief Prosecutor stated not once earlier
that President of Georgia might be summoned for interrogation in the framework of different cases
investigation.
The presidential elections in Georgia have
been scheduled for October 27.
