There are no trueprerequisites for improvement of Armenian-Turkish relations, there are only Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu's statements, Director of the Oriental Studies Institute under Armenian National Academy of Science, Ruben Safrastyan, told journalists today.
On 20 November, Davutoglu voiced once again Ankara's aspiration to normalization of relations with Yerevan and conditioned them with the relations between Yerevan and Baku.
"As for me, I do not trust in such statements made by Ankara. They are likely directed at decrease of effect of the events dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Armenian genocide. Moreover, such diplomatic tricks have a purpose of creation of a background favorable to Turkey in its long-lasting negotiations on joining the European Union", - Safrastyan said.
He thinks that Ankara is seriously ready to another round of struggle against the historical fact of the genocide. The non-stop activity of the state inter-department commission for prevention the recognition of the fact of the Armenian genocide for the last 10 years is evidence of that, he said. He also added that however, the Turks gave no final "programme" of events in this direction.
When commenting on Davutoglu's possible visit to Yerevan, Safrastyan said that taking into consideration the fact that Armenia's Foreign Ministry invited him within the frames of the forthcoming BSEC session in Yerevan, Davutoglu or one of his deputies may arrive in Yerevan.
