Complete transition to professional army is not realistic in Armenia in the coming years, Armenian Defense Minister Seyran Ohanyan said during a meeting with professors and students of the Armenian State Institute of Physical Culture on Monday.
He pointed out that Armenia's army is highly competitive. "As regards professional army, it needs serious human and financial resources. Those holding other countries as a model for us should know that 1/3 of their servicemen are not on alert as is the case in our army. Still we are steadily increasing the percentage of contractual officers in our armed forces," Ohanyan said.
