Armenian government has been tightening requirements to the buffalo meat import from India. At the same time, it worries about the expected growth of prices for the meat products.
Armenia's Agriculture Minister, Sergo Karapetyan, submitted the draft decision. He said that the Government suggests defining new stricter demands for the meat producing companies of India, particularly demanding 15 years of the meat production experience instead of the former 10.
To note, buffalo meat from India is actively used by the Armenian meat products producers, in particular, in production of sausages. Actually, meat is only 16-17% in the local production sausages, all the rest are soya, flour, oil, frozen pork, buffalo meat, crow, flavoring agents and colorants. Buffalo meat is used instead of beef. This reduces the quality and prime cost of the production much.
It was not accidental that Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan said at the government session that everything should be done not to increase prices for meat products in Armenia. However, their price may grow, when local producers will start using local meat in production of sausages. The quality of this meat is higher and it is more expensive.
To note, Armenia imports 10 thsd tons of buffalo meat from India every year.
