Tbilisi. Georgia will be able to explain to Russia
that Georgia's integration into NATO will not affect the interests of the
neighbor states - Georgian Premier, Bidzina Ivanishvili, stated at a joint news
conference with NATO Secretary General, Anders Fogh Rasmussen, in Tbilisi, on
June 26.
"Russia is not happy about it
(Georgia's integration into NATO) and it will not be happy about it tomorrow,
but the main thing is that the Georgian people are happy with that and we are
accountable to the Georgian people. This is not my decision or the decision of
the previous government. No, this is a decision of Georgian people:Of course,
some neighbors, including Russia, may not be satisfied with that - that may be
unpleasant, but we will be able to explain, in a proper manner, that it will
not affect Russia's interests," Ivanishvili stressed.
In his words, Georgia will continue on its
path towards Euro-Atlantic space.
NATO Secretary General, in his turn,
pointed out that it was too early to talk about expansion of the Alliance.
"We have not yet decided on the
agenda of the NATO Summit 2014 , so, we have not decided how the open- door
policy will be addressed:I would like to stress that Georgia has actually
chosen her own path towards what we decided at the Bucharest Summit in 2008
(that Georgia will become a member of the Alliance)," Rasmussen said.
