Tbilisi. By the present time 13 Georgian nationals managed to
return to the Motherland from Syria, First Deputy Foreign Minister of Georgia
David Zalkaliani stated at the briefing on Monday, September 9.
The situation in Syria aggravated again on August 21, when
some Mass Media reported on large scale use of chemical weapons in Damascus
suburbs by the governmental troops. Syrian authorities disproved that
information. After this the West talked openly about possible interference into
the conflict in Syria.
"13 our national have already
returned to Georgia, 4 Georgian citizens are in Beirut at the present time, one
national did not want to return and is staying in Syria. The Foreign Ministry
tried to ensure their security in every
possible way", Zalkaliani said.
Earlier, the ministry informed that it had
bought tickets for September 8 for flight Beirut-Istanbul- Tbilisi for 18
Georgian nationals, staying in Syria.
Last week, the U.S. President stated that
he had made a decision on necessity of military operation against Syrian
regime. Later, he submitted officially a corresponding resolution to the
legislative body. The Chamber of
Representatives and the Senate are expected to put on vote the resolution on
Syria not earlier than September 9.
The Foreign Ministry of Georgia condemned
violence and use of chemical weapons against the peaceful population in Syria
and supported the international community's readiness to activate efforts to
defend peaceful nationals' rights in Syria.
