Armenia's Foreign Ministry has disproved the information of mass media that Belgian special services take interest in Armenia's Ambassador to Belgium, Avet Adonts.
Press-secretary of the Ministry, Tigran Balayan, told Arminfo correspondent that the given information is falsehood and is not consistent with the reality.
To note, according to some mass media of Armenia, Belgian special services have noticed the expensive Rolex watch of Armenia's Ambassador to Belgium Avet Adonts and the diamonds the diplomat regularly purchases and transports to Armenia. In line with the legislation in many European countries, a consumer gets 21% cash back for every purchase exceeding 300 EUR. Taking advantage of that opportunity, the bright ambassador used to purchase expensive watches and jewelry in Belgium. He did that frequently enough to draw the attention of the special services. As a result, the Belgian party has requested explanations from the Foreign Ministry of Armenia and the National Security Service of Armenia. The special services seek to know how a diplomat manages to buy so much jewelry for his salary and transport it to Armenia without any restrictions. The abovementioned 21% cash back is a tangible amount of money, while Belgium did not use to waste the budget funds. The paper writes that the Belgian party rather consistently seeks reply to its request, which means that Adonts may face problems in his diplomatic career. After all, Spain, where Adots may be appointed next, may not give an agreement not to deal with a contrabandist ambassador.
