Tbilisi. Georgia's accession to NATO in 2014 is not
realistic, Georgian Defence Minister Irakli Alasania stated in the interview to
the magazine Commersant Vlast, which was published on Monday.
"It is not realistic", he said
in the interview in response to a journalist's
remark that two years ago Saakashvili had stated that Georgia would be
accepted to NATO in 2014.
The minister also said that in 2014
Georgia would complete its mission in
Afghanistan. According to him, after Georgian Armed Forces finish the
mission, "they are ready to participate in other operations of the Alliance".
" Very soon, in 2015, we will become
a part of NATO Response Forces and it will be a great experience for us. We
have begun talks with EU and our troops will soon participate in the European
international operations", Alasania added.
The Georgian military contingent has been
fulfilling the peacekeeping mission in Afghanistan in ISAF composition since
2009. 29 Georgian military servicemen
died in Afghanistan since that time.
According to the Georgian Defence Ministry's information, over 1,5 thousand
Georgian militaries serve in Afghanistan at the present time.
