Turkey also wants to open the border with
Armenia open, Mevlut Cavusoglu, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkey, told
reporters on board while traveling to Brussels. He was asked to comment Pope
Francis's latest statement concerning opening of the Armenian-Turkish border.
"It was just the desire of the Pope. We also want
to border to open. However, in the
Armenian issue only Turkey makes steps. The other party is silent. Our extended
hand remains hanging in the air," the minister said.
To recall, Pope Francis voiced his hope for the
opening of the Turkey-Armenia border, during a flight back to Rome after a
three-day visit to Turkey a few days ago.
