Turkey will never participate in the Karabakh peace process, at least, all its efforts to get involved in the process will face strong resistance of Yerevan, Ruben Safrastyan, Director of the Oriental Studies Institute at the National Academy of Science of Armenia, told reporters, Thursday.
Turkey continues its intensive efforts to involve in the Karabakh conflict's resolution. Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu told reporters on 20 November that he discussed the Karabakh issue with President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev during the president's latest visit to Ankara. He said that on the eve of the meeting of the Armenian and Azerbaijani presidents in Vienna on 18 November he dwelled upon the issue of Nagorno-Karabakh with Secretary of State John Kerry. Davutoglu said that together with Prime Minister of Turkey Recep Erdogan they are going to travel to Moscow to meet with President Putin over the situation in the Caucasus, including the Karabakh issue. The minister said that everyone is interested in sooner resolution of the conflict, Turkish media said.
"Turkey cannot mediate in the Karabakh peace process, at least, because it is a concerned party that comes out in favor of Azerbaijan. Yerevan will never agree on that. In addition, Armenia should reckon with Nagorno Karabakh in this issue. No agreement is possible between Armenia and Azerbaijan unless Artsakh agrees with it. The logic of the negotiation process implies that sooner or later Stepanakert will replace Yerevan at the negotiating table," Safrastyan said.
