Armenia will remain committed to international efforts to achieve security and resolve the inter-ethnic problems in Afghanistan, Foreign Minister of Armenia Edward Nalbandian said at the meeting of the foreign minister of the non-NATO ISAF Contributing Nations in Brussels on 25 June, the Foreign Ministry of Armenia reported.
In his speech, Minister Nalbandian said that for stability and security of Afghanistan, it is necessary to remain committed to Afghanistan and sustain the Afghan security forces. The minister hopes the post- elections problems in Afghanistan will be settled through constructive measures acceptable to all the parties.
In June 2011, the Armenian peacekeeping contingent consisting of 81 people arrived in Mazar-e Sarif (Afghanistan) and entered upon its duties. It is the second contingent of Armenian peacekeepers in Afghanistan. The first contingent comprising 40 peacekeepers arrived in Kunduz province as part of the ISAF rehabilitation group on February 2010. In August 2012 the peacekeepers completed their mission in Mazar-e Sarif. Another contingent of 61 Armenian peacekeepers left for Afghanistan.
