The growth of prices since the beginning of November till 10 December is in line with the fluctuation of the foreign currency rate. This is evidence of the fact that big suppliers did not overuse their dominating position at the market, Chairman of the State Commission for Protection of Economic Competition, Artak Shaboyan, said in the government today when presenting the premier the situation in the republic.
He said that the investigation of the Commission has not been completed yet, but according to the preliminary indices, since the moment of sharp devaluation of the Armenian dram at the beginning of December, the growth of prices for food products fluctuated at 2-13%, while the Armenian dram devaluated by 13%, from 411AMD/$1 up to 463 AMD/$1. In general, the prices for 16-17 types of goods were investigated, including sugar, butter, eggs, flour, coffee, etc supplied by big companies. "Our task is not to let the groundless growth of prices", - Shaboyan said and added that only the price for buckwheat turned to be above the average price, as Armenia imports buckwheat chiefly from Russia which had a bad buckwheat harvest this year, that resulted in extra growth of price.
