The vice-speaker of Armenian parliament, press-secretary of the ruling Republican Party of Armenia, Edward Sharmazanov, called the first president of Armenia, the leader of the opposition Armenian National Congress, Levon Ter-Petrosyan, a political pensioner.
The reason of such a criticism was a statement by Ter-Petrosyan that the decision of President Serzh Sargsyan to join the Customs Union in the relevant conditions was humiliating for Armenia and reminds of the Batumi treaty 1918.
He told journalist that, the comparison of the Customs Union with the Batumi Treaty is inadmissible to him like a historian. "What can I say? It is a statement made by a political pensioner. We can notice disagreements in Ter-Petrosyan's statement. On the one hand, he criticizes the Customs Union, and on the other hand, calls to hold back from sharp statements about Russia", - Sharmazanov said.
However, he agrees to the first president of Armenia on inadmissibility of the anti-Russian or anti-West moods. "I agree that insulting statements must not be voiced in the politics. But if we remember the statements by Ter-Petrosyan and his team made earlier, we shall see that they did not always adhere to this rule. Better late than never", - Sharmazanov said.
