France, as an OSCE Minsk Group co-chair country, remains committed to peaceful resolution of the Karabakh conflict, newly appointed French Ambassador to Armenia Jean-Francois Charpentier said at a press conference in Yerevan on November 12.
"We remain committed to peaceful resolution of the conflict and the Paris summit initiated by French President Francois Hollande on October 27 is direct evidence of that", said the diplomat. He recalled President Hollande's statement that the current situation in the Karabakh conflict zone cannot last long and that the parties should jointly find a solution, from which both countries' people will benefit.
To note, Armenian and Azerbaijani Presidents, Serzh Sargsyan and Ilham Aliyev met in Paris on October 27 at the initiative of French President Francois Hollande. The press service of the Armenian President quoted those present at the meeting as saying that they had to continue fostering dialogue and building confidence between the parties to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict as that was the only way to achieve progress in the peace talks. They were unanimous that peace was the only solution to the conflict. They agreed to further organize presidential meetings and to exchange data on missing people through the ICRC.
Meanwhile, the website of the French President reported that during his meetings with the Armenian and Azerbaijani presidents Hollande said that the existing status quo in Nagorno-Karabakh was not stable. So, he urged the parties to show political will, to stop their disputes and to prepare their peoples for a comprehensive peace agreement.
