"Road map" on Armenia's accession to the Customs Union and the United Trade Area (UTA) should be prepared ahead of the December Summit of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council (SEEC) in Moscow, First Deputy Prime Minister of Russia Igor Shuvalov told reporters following the SEEC Summit in Minsk, overnight, ITAR TASS said.
"A decision was adopted on Armenia. A working group will start preparing a 'road map' for the next meeting of the Council in December in Moscow," he said. Shuvalov said that Armenia pledges to adopt the necessary regulatory framework for accession to the Customs Union within several months.
"President of Armenia applied to the presidents of the CU countries for an opportunity to ratify all the agreements as soon as possible," he said. Shuvalov outlined that Yerevan is ready to join the regulatory framework of the Union 'without any reservations or restrictions.'
However, he said, the working group will work as long as necessary without any acceleration mechanisms to avoid an impression that Armenia is artificially pulled to the Customs Union. Shuvalov said Armenia's accession to this integration project may required two stages: Customs Union and United Trade Area.
