Armenian Prosecutor General has instructed to send the criminal case over the incident involving "Armenia Today" coordinator Argishti Kiviryan to the Special Investigation Service of Armenia, Adviser to the Prosecutor General Sona Truzyan said.
Vahan Vrtanesian, a police officer submitted a report on the incident, claiming that Argishti Kiviryan cursed him, bit and hit him in the car.
Kiviryan was severely beaten up on 24 August during protest actions against construction of an elite building in Komitas Street. Kiviryan said he was ready to identity the police officers that beat him up. Reports on Kiviryan's beating and relevant photos occurred on Facebook at midnight. Reportedly, the Police created obstacles to the efforts to provide first aid to Kiviryan. Criminal proceedings have been launched against Kiviryan, who is charged with violence against a power representative.
In the meanwhile, Kiviryan claims that the criminal proceedings were launched on the "wrong scenario". He is sure he was beaten up, detained and is prosecuted for the only goal to isolate him and stir up fear among the people. He explains the police actions with his journalistic and public activity.
