Suicide rates are growing among young people worldwide, Head of Medical Psychology Department, Yerevan State Medical University, Khachatur Gasparyan, told media on 22 August.
In Armenia, he said, household and social-economic problems is what makes people commit suicides. Gasparyan said that serious psychiatric pathologies may also become a reason of suicide. Dr. Christina W. Hoven, Columbia University, New York, in turn, said that in Armenia like in many developing countries there is no adequate statistics on suicides. In fact, it becomes impossible to reveal the most vulnerable groups of the people and impedes work to prevent suicides.

Another 51 suicides were committed by persons at the age of 30-65 and 32 cases- by persons above 65.
By data of the WHO, suicide rate grew 60% in the world over the last 45 years. Suicides among young people are growing both in developed and developing countries.
