Tbilisi. Russia welcomes Georgian leadership's statement
about possible restoration of ties with Abkhazia and South Ossetia and
readiness to engage in direct dialogue with them - Russian Foreign Minister,
Sergey Lavrov, stated in an interview with Abkhazian state TV and radio
company.
"We would like to highlight the new
Georgian government's statement about its aspiration to improve such relations.
Russia highly welcomes that. As we believe, proceeding from the ordinary
people's interests, with the aim to help them build links on routine issues,
all geopolitical prejudices can be put aside," he stressed.
At the same time, as Russian Foreign
Minister emphasized, Tbilisi's desire to integrate Abkhazia and South Ossetia
under its jurisdiction was unachievable. "One should proceed from actual
state of affairs and think of people rather than again of someone's ambitions,
especially, as it is absolutely impossible to fulfill them," Lavrov
stated.
