Armenia's decision to access the Customs Union threatens its stability, Richard Giragosian, Head of the Center for Regional Studies, told media, Tuesday.
According to him, in its foreign policy Armenia has had something that its partners lacked for long years i.e. stability. Now, Armenia has exposed that stability to a risk, he said. Giragosian thinks the problem is not in the decision, but in the attitude of partner Russia to Armenia.
He outlined that official Moscow has not yet provided any date or terms of Yerevan's accession to the CU. In addition, Giragosian is sure that the given cooperation is not based on equality of rights and mutual respect. The analyst is surprised to see that the authorities have not yet explained the public what was the reason of the decision to access the CU.
It is noteworthy that neither Belarus nor Kazakhstan is eager to see Armenia in that integration project, he said. In addition, it is not clear what will Armenia gain from that project. Richard Giragosian thinks Armenia was a pawn in a political game that was sacrificed to teach Ukraine a lesson.
