Introduction of excise duties for food products will lead to growth of their prices, the head of NGO "Informed and protected consumer", Babken Pipoyan, said at today's press-conference.
He said that in another country introduction of this duty could be positive, as it would result in growth of budgetary funds thanks to reduction of shadow economy. "But everything differs in our country. Although producers will get back the funds spent for the excise duties, nevertheless, they will make use of a chance and increase prices of the food products", - the expert said.
He also added that at present it is possible to decrease prices of the non-foods by 50%, as they are extremely overpriced. "However, introduction of the excise tax will also affect non-foods' prices. It is not ruled out that unfair suppliers will also make use of the situation", - Pipoyan said.
