Yerevan will be hosing a Youth Potential Program on 28 October - 15 November. An American Film Showcase, a competition of compositions, chess tournament with participation of grand masters Levon Aronian and Gabriel Sargsyan, as well as master- classes on filmmaking will be held on sidelines of the program.
A documentary Brooklyn Castle by Katie Dellamaggiore will open the program. The film tells about children from vulnerable families who study at a chess school in Brooklyn. Talking to reporters on 28 October, U.S. Ambassador to Armenia John Heffern said that the U.S. Embassies in various countries fought for the right to represent the American Film Showcase. And, finally, Washington chose Armenia, given the country's successes in the world chess tournaments. A total of 24 films will be demonstrated in the course of the program.
Katie Dellamaggiore, independent film director Jay Rosenblatt and producer Nelson Dellamaggiore will share experience with the youth through master-classes and workshops. Katie Dellamaggiore called the initiative of teaching chess at school as very interesting. "Hopefully, one day this idea will be reinforced also at American schools," she said.
The U.S. Embassy in Armenia and TUMO Center of Creative Technologies is implementing the Youth Potential program. American Film Showcase will be held at TUMO. The entry is free.
