The anti-frost program of the Agriculture Ministry of Armenia proved useless, as heavy snow and cold weather hit the country causing real damage to blossomed apricot and other trees and plants, the Ministry says in a press release.
The Ministry says that the program developed on the basis of meteorological forecasts proved unable to resist the powerful cyclone that hit the country last night and continues so far. All the traditional methods to save harvest from low temperature and even permanent supervision of specialists over irrigation and fumigation activities proved powerless before heavy snow, low temperature and strong wind in the country, the source reports.
On March 31 and the following two days, Armenian hydro-meteorological service forecasts low temperature in the country, particularly up to -5 +C -6+C in the Ararat Valley. The harvest of apricots and other fruits is still under threat. The situation will become clear only after relevant examinations by specialists. The Ministry of Agriculture urges farmers not to panic and continue the anti-frost activities.
