"Concerned about attacks vs Arshamyan, Saghatelyan & other activists in Armenia. Effective investigation & accountability must be ensured", Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights Nils Muiznieks says in a tweet.
On September 5 Haykak Arshamyan, Project Coordinator at the Yerevan Press Club, and Souren Saghatelyan, member of the Council of the Transparency International Anti-Corruption Center, were hospitalized with severe injuries. Both were taking part in the actions of protest against Armenia's decision to join the Customs Union.
Meanwhile, the Armenian police are trying to refute the statements about their passivity. According to the recent media reports, the civil activists in Armenia undergo violence and the police are blamed for passivity. The police consider such statements to be groundless. -n-
