The candidate for the position of the head of the Lawyers' Chamber, Ara Zohrabyan, said at today's press-conference that he condemns an incident with a journalist, lawyer and civil activist, Argishti Kiviryan.
"We condemn using of violence against Kiviryan. The actions of the Police should be legal and adequate to the situation", - Zohrabyan said.
To recall, Kiviryan was severely beaten up on 24 August during protest actions against construction of an elite building in Komitas Street. Kiviryan said he was ready to identity the police officers that beat him up. Reports on Kiviryan's beating and relevant photos occurred on Facebook at midnight. Reportedly, the Police created obstacles to the efforts to provide first aid to Kiviryan. Criminal proceedings have been launched against Kiviryan, who is charged with violence against a power representative.
In the meanwhile, Kiviryan claims that the criminal proceedings were launched on the "wrong scenario". He is sure he was beaten up, detained and is prosecuted for the only goal to isolate him and stir up fear among the people. He explains the police actions with his journalistic and public activity. -a-
