The reaction of the superpowers, the USA and Russia, on the situation in Kessab is inadequate, Deputy Director of the Caucasus Institute, political expert, Sergey Minasyan, said at today's press-conference.
He also added that in this case specific political actions or force use would be adequate. "I think that the statements by the superpowers on the given issue are the result of the active work of the Armenian Diaspora", - he said.
Asked about Armenia's reaction, Minasyan replied that official Yerevan has already reacted on the events in Kessab. "As I guess, Armenians of Kessab are not going to leave Syria and their houses. In that case, I think that official Yerevan jointly with the authorities of Syria should attract attention of the world community at the situation in Kessab and the world community should give an adequate estimate to the situation. Then all the measures should be taken to pay back Armenians of Kessab", - he concluded.
To note, in the early morning on March 21, armed militants from the Jabhat al-Nusra Islamic terrorist group infiltrated into northern Syria?s Latakia Governorate, which is predominantly inhabited by Armenians and Alawites, from four directions. Two large groups of terrorists had launched the attack from Turkey. About 600 Kessab-Armenian families are currently sheltered in Latakia city. On March 23, Turkish fighter planes downed a Syrian military aircraft that was conducting a mission against the Islamic terrorists in Kessab. A group of Armenia parliament members recently visited Syria to assess the situation in the region.
