Armenia is not going to become the "tail" of any country in the Customs Union but is seeking benefits there, the head of the parliamentary group of the Republican Party of Armenia Galust Sahakyan said at a parliamentary briefing on Friday.
"Our consent to move towards this Union does not yet mean that we have already joined it. We will be going this way but if we see any potential threats, we will choose another way. Our final decision will depend on our status in the Union and the benefits it can offer us. In any case this is a long process especially as the leaders of Russian, Belarus and Kazakhstan have different positions on the Nagorno-Karabakh problem," Sahakyan said.
He said that during the last meeting in Minsk the Kazakh and Byelorussian presidents welcomed Armenia's decision to join the Customs Union. "But we yet have to do a lot to join the Union. We are not going to do it at the expense of our sovereignty. Our policy is to integrate with all the world's countries," Sahakyan said.
