Tbilisi. The European Union Monitoring Mission (EUMM)
continues promoting a dialogue between the sides to prevent facts of ungrounded
detainment of individuals on the administrative boundary line of Tskhinvali
region with the rest part of Georgia.
It was reported last Friday that three
residents of Zegduleti village of Gori district (Shida Kartli region) had been
detained not far from the administrative boundary line with Tskhinvali region.
According to the Mass Media's information,
a couple Nana Vanishvili and Alexander Tsertsvadze as well as Irakli
Merebashvili were detained by Russian border guards on the road leading to
village Zegduleti. There was a six-year old child with them, who was released
immediately after they trespassed "the border".
"The EU Monitoring Mission welcomes
the prompt release of a child, following the activation of the Hotline in the
evening of 22 August. The six year old boy was held after he crossed the
Administrative Boundary Line to South Ossetia near Tsinagari. The child, who is
with relatives now, was together with three adults that are still in custody in
Tskhinvali", is said in EUMM statement. .
In order to prevent unnecessary
detentions, EUMM continues to facilitate dialogue between the sides, EUMM notes
in its statement, disseminated on August 23.
It should be noted that on Friday,
Minister of Interior of Georgia Irakli Gharibashvili stated that the department
was negotiating with the aim of releasing the detainees and expressed hope they
would be freed soon.
"The Analytical Department of the
Ministry of Interior (MoI) holds talks. I am sure they will be released
soon", Gharibashvili stated.
