Iran's presence in the South Caucasus security system is a necessity, Executive Director of PolitContact Center for Political Technologies (Moscow) Andrey Medvedev told journalists in Yerevan on Tuesday.
He is sure that today the South Caucasus needs a new security system. "This system must not be part of any alliance and must involve Iran. The point is that the key sources of instability for the region are located outside it," the expert said.
He believes that the conflict in Syria was an additional source of instability. "Today Iran and Turkey are actively rivaling with Russia, the United States and the European Union for the South Caucasus and this cannot but affect the situation in the region," Medvedev said.
