Increase of the releases from Sevan may cause seismic risks and water quality impairment.
To recall, Armenia's State Committee for Water Resources under Territorial Administration Ministry offered at the legislative level to increase releases from Sevan up to 240 mln sq/m instead of the current 170 mln, as Sev Jur river at Ararat valley cannot provide enough water for irrigation.
"I am categorically against that, as it means to correct one mistake with another one", - the head of the Association "For stable development", Karine Danielyan, told Arminfo correspondent.
"We must not treat the lake in such a way: to increase its level and then to decrease it. This may cause seismic risks too. Moreover, at present the lake is "recovering" and the quality of its water is becoming better. But by such a decision we may stop this process", - she said.
To recall, as of 1 January 2013, Sevan Lake level was by 3 sm less versus the same period of 2012. Experts said that big volumes of water releases in 2012 were the reason of the negative balance of the lake.
