The Ambassador of Armenia to Germany and the member of Armenian Revolutionary Federation “Dashnaktsutyun“, Vahan Hovhannisyan, died on December 28 at the age of 58, after a long battle with hard disease.
Vahan Hovhannisyan’s political activity began with the participation to the Revolutionary Federation “Dashnaktsutyun” in early 90s. As the son of a well-known human rights activist and dissident who had left the Soviet Union, Eduard Hovhannisyan, Vahan Hovhannisyan sincerely aimed to achieve the independence for Armenia. In early 90s he was fighting at the front, actively participating in Karabakh movement. During the rule of Armenian first President, Levon Ter-Petrosyan, he got imprisoned for political reasons as a member of the party “Dashnaktsutyun”.
Vahan Hovhannisyan was repeatedly elected as a deputy of Armenian Parliament; in 2008 he was nominated as a candidate for the President of Armenia. In 2013 he published the book about the background of Armenians' history, titled “Mandylion”.
Vahan Hovhannisyan's appointment as Ambassador to Germany, 28th December 2013, was connected also to the attempt to overcome the insidious disease under the supervision of German doctors. Unfortunately, his life was cut short.
