Bronze monument to Anastas Mikoyan has disappeared from a molding plant in Yerevan, a local Haykakan Zhamanak Daily writes.
'
The employees of the plant say the monument was taken away by the unknown people.
"Neither the Yerevan Municipality nor the sculptor Gagik Stepanyan who was charged with molding the monument have any information on its disappearance," the paper writes.
The Yerevan Elders Council approved the initiative of erecting a monument to Anastas Mikoyan, a prominent Soviet political figure. Republican and Prosperous Armenia Parties voted for the initiative, while Barev Yerevan bloc and historian Hayk Demoyan opposed the initiative. The idea of erecting the monument aroused public indignation. An appeal was addressed to the Culture Ministry and the Municipality against the initiative. The people claim that those who voted for the initiative are unaware of Mikoyan's activity.
