<Шах Дениз 2> глава МИД Великобритании Уильям Хейг во вторник встретился с активистами гражданского общества Азербайджана -
Хадиджей Исмайловой, Эммином Гусейновым, Тургутом Гамбаром, Бахтияром Гаджиевым и Али Новрузовым. В ходе встречи были обсуждены вопросы состояния прав человека, гражданских свобод в Азербайджане. Как сказал Turan один из участников встречи, Хейг был проинформирован о грубых фактах нарушения правительством Азербайджана национального законодательства и международных обязательств в области прав человека и свобод. <Но было видно, что министр владеет информацией о том, что происходит в стране>, - сказал собеседник. Активисты гражданского общества призвали Великобританию использовать свое влияние и занять принципиальную позицию в отношениях с правительством Азербайджана касательно вопроса прав человека. В частности, было предложено включить Азербайджан в список стран, которые Великобритания считает нарушителями прав человека и отслеживает в своем ежегодном отчете: <Права человека и демократия>. В список входят 27 стран, из которых четыре являются постсоветским: Россия, Беларусь, Туркменистан и Узбекистан.
