On April 24 evening, the lights of the Eiffel Tower and Coliseum were turned off from 10 pm to 10:15 pm (at midnight Yerevan time) to mourn the deaths of the 1.5 million Armenians who perished during the Genocide in the Ottoman Empire 100 years ago.
On April 24, Armenians worldwide commemorated the Armenian Genocide Centennial. Some 130 thsd people held a procession in Los Angeles. Large ceremonies were held in several major cities around the globe. White doves were released into the sky following a service at an Armenian church in Moscow. A liturgy was held by the Armenian Patriarchate in Istanbul.
The Presidents of France, Russia, Serbia and Cyprus visited Yerevan to attend the memorial events.
