ArmInfo.Russian peacekeepers will remain on the territory of Nagorno-Karabakh at least until 2025 within the framework of the concluded agreement. A similar opinion is shared by military political scientist, director of the Law and Order charity institution, candidate of historical sciences, reserve lieutenant colonel of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Oleg Ivannikov.
"The agreement on the presence of the Russian peacekeeping corps on the territory of the unrecognized Nagorno-Karabakh Republic was concluded for a period of five years. It provides for a complex and multi- level procedure for its early termination, which will have an extremely negative impact on the security of the region. Russian peacekeepers are independent observers of the ceasefire process and the need for them presence on both sides of the conflict.
This allows us to unambiguously conclude that the treaty plan has been fully implemented and that Russian peacekeepers will remain in the border zone for five years. They need to prevent the continuation and escalation of the conflict. Peacekeepers will remain on the territory of Karabakh until at least 2025 and control the border between Armenia and Azerbaijan. We cannot leave there, only Russia can ensure peace," Oleg Ivannikov emphasized, URA.RU reports.
The military political scientist added that Russian peacekeepers are now evacuating the population on the territory of Nagorno-Karabakh. "From the first days of the intergovernmental agreement, Russian peacekeepers have been conscientiously and sacrificially fulfilling their military duty, saving civilians and facilitating their evacuation to Armenia. Peacekeepers are in full control of the situation and are making an invaluable contribution to ensuring the safety of citizens who remain to live on the territory of Azerbaijan," Ivannikov noted.
