ArmInfo. French FM Catherine Colonna stated Paris is concerned by Azerbaijan's rhetoric aimed at drawing Armenia into the tragic events in Nagorno-Karabakh.
France will continue to closely monitor attempts to use these events in Nagorno-Karabakh as a pretext to question the territorial integrity of Armenia, she said.
Civilian casualties are of particular concern. The ceasefire apparently has not been established and France will continue to monitor the situation. France has always supported and supports negotiated solutions that would guarantee the Armenian population of Nagorno-Karabakh the right to live in peace, with respect for their history and culture. These guarantees cannot be established by dictation.
Ms Colonna repeated her statement that France considers Azerbaijan responsible for the fate of the population of Karabakh. The data available to France suggest a risk of population exodus, which also arouses concern.
France has taken the initiative to hold an urgent discussion of the situation on Nagorno-Karabakh in the UN Security Council. It is important that the Council speak out jointly and clearly on this issue, the French FM said.
