ArmInfo.Official Yerevan is interested in the missions of international bodies monitoring the situation on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border. Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan stated this on December 7 during the government hour in the RA National Assembly.
According to him, earlier on this issue, Armenia turned to various international bodies- the CSTO, the OSCE, the EU. The OSCE mission ended quite recently, and the European Union monitoring mission, whose mandate will expire on December 20, is currently continuing. The country's foreign minister welcomed the willingness of various EU countries to continue the mission for two reasons. First of all, we are talking about the fact that no one doubts the neutrality of this mission, and its assessments are very important for subsequent international processes. < It is extremely important for the sending country to know where the troops are, especially against the backdrop of administrative borders from the Soviet period, which the parties recognized as state borders. The mission, having maps at hand, can record on which section of the border the troops are deployed as well as the destruction caused to Armenia as a result of military operations>, Mirzoyan noted, adding that the mission is carried out in the territory of Armenia, and not outside its borders.
The monitoring mission of the European Union since October 20 started working on the Armenian- Azerbaijani border. On October 6, in Prague, as a result of negotiations between the leaders of Armenia, Azerbaijan, France and the Council of Europe, an agreement was reached on sending a civilian EU mission. Baku, which had previously rejected the EU's proposal to deploy the Armed Forces on the border with Armenia, did not object to the unarmed mission, while emphasizing that it would cooperate <to the extent appropriate>. The Council of Europe decided on October 17 to send up to 40 EU experts along the Armenian side of the international border with Azerbaijan to monitor, analyze and report on the situation in the region, the Council of Europe said in a statement. According to the quadripartite statement, the mission will operate for two months. The observers' priority in the case of Armenia will be the preparation of reports to support the work of the commissions on the delimitation and demarcation of the border with Azerbaijan.
