ArmInfo. Russia is making an active contribution to the preparation of the Armenian-Azerbaijani peace treaty.
This was announced on August 2 at a weekly briefing by official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova. She recalled that Igor Khovaev, Russia's special representative for the normalization of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan, holds regular consultations with the parties to find common ground, reach mutually acceptable basic principles and parameters of a peace agreement.
"Let me remind you that the last such contacts took place on July 21 in Baku, and on July 28 in Yerevan," Zakharova said, adding that the delimitation of the border between Armenia and Azerbaijan is also an important part of Russia's mediation efforts to improve the dialogue between Moscow's Transcaucasian neighbors. <The advisory role of Moscow in this process is recorded in the Sochi tripartite statement at the level of the leaders of Armenia, Azerbaijan and Russia dated November 26, 2021. As is known, at the end of May this year, a corresponding bilateral commission was created and the first introductory meeting of representatives of Armenia and Azerbaijan took place on the border of the two countries>, Zakharova said.
At the same time, she stressed that, for its part, Russia is always ready to welcome its friends from Armenia and Azerbaijan on Russian territory. "We are convinced that the unique professional capabilities, the competence of our country in terms of delimitation and demarcation in the post-Soviet space can significantly strengthen security on the Azerbaijani-Armenian border, and in the region as a whole," the representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
In conclusion, she stressed that Baku and Yerevan will independently determine the specific dates for certain arrangements, and Moscow, for its part, will inform about them when they make these decisions. This is how she answered the question about a possible meeting of the special representatives of Armenia and Azerbaijan on the delimitation of the border at the end of August, which was reported earlier by Secretary of the Security Council of Armenia, Armen Grigoryan.
