ArmInfo.Azerbaijan responds to all peaceful initiatives of Armenia with aggressive rhetoric. Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan stated this on July 27 at a press conference on his Facebook page, commenting on the statements of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev that Armenia allegedly left Baku's proposal to start work on a peace agreement unanswered, and the opening of communications is a direct legal obligation of Armenia.
In this regard, the Prime Minister noted that the tripartite statement establishes the legal obligation of Azerbaijan and Armenia to achieve the opening of communications. "I spoke in Brussels, as well as at a meeting of the Armenian government, about my readiness to start building a railway, but Baku refused this proposal. There was a proposal to fix the agreements reached on paper. The draft document was presented by the Russian co-chair of the commission. The Armenian side expressed readiness to sign it, the Azerbaijani side refused", the head of government noted, recalling his statements about the unacceptability of Azerbaijan's approach, according to which the road from Azerbaijan to Nakhichevan would have to function by analogy with the Lachin corridor.
Pashinyan cited two cases when a preliminary agreement was reached on holding a meeting of the commission on the delimitation and demarcation of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border, and in both cases Baku either refused or demanded to postpone it. The same applies to transport communications. < Azerbaijan tries to make an impression that Armenia opposes the unblocking of transport communications, which violates the provisions of the tripartite statement," Pashinyan said, adding that with its attempts Baku is trying to make an impression that Armenia does not want to fulfill its obligations under the tripartite statement, and thereby legitimize a new war against Armenia and Karabakh.
Meanwhile, according to the head of government, the reality is completely different. Baku considers the policy of blocking Armenia pursued for 30 years to be effective and deliberately delays the opening of regional transport communications. "Armenia is interested in the implementation of the agreements, since the unblocking of communications will allow our country to get a railway connection with Iran, Russia, and the Syunik region will receive a railway connection with the rest of Armenia," the head of the Armenian government stressed.
