ArmInfo.Armenia's former Human Rights Defender Arman Tatoyan is sure that the statement by President of the European Council Charles Michel following his meeting with the Armenian and Azerbaijani leaders completely disregards the Artsakh people's right to self-determination and Azerbaijan's genocidal policy toward Artsakh.
"Armenia's security is obviously being undermined. No guarantees. But the ongoing developments are evidence of Armenian authorities doing their best to bring to nothing our basic postulates of historical importance - to start with the fact that Azerbaijan's territorial integrity has nothing to do with Artsakh," Mr Tatoyan wrote in a Facebook message.
In this context, he points out the fact that Armenia's incumbent authorities have justified and legalized the Azerbaijani military facilities in Gegharkunik and Syunik, and surrendered Armenia's territorial jurisdiction.
"In Syunik, roads are being constructed to be the aim of Azerbaijan. Azerbaijan's crimes have remained concealed from the world, public and Diaspora. To conceal their own errors, prevent discontent, retain their positions they are exerting pressure on all those publishing the facts. They have paralyzed our state in terms of international mechanisms and made our country a victim of geopolitical interests. This gave a free hand to Azerbaijan to disseminate its falsifications throughout the world. They are dulling people's vigilance," Mr Tatoyan wrote.
The statement by President of the European Council Charles Michel following his meeting with the Armenian and Azerbaijani leaders does not contain a single word about Nagorno-Karabakh's status. In his statement, Mr Michel used the term "Karabakh" instead of "Nagorno-Karabakh". The statement does not mention either the trilateral agreements between the Armenian, Azerbaijan and Russian leaders or other settlement principles.
Moreover, after Mr Michel issued his statement, Google maps showed the Armenian settlements and government agencies in Nagorno-Karabakh under Azerbaijani names.
