ArmInfo.Commissioner for Human Rights in France Claire Edon and Armenian Ombudsman Arman Tatoyan, who is in Paris, discussed the obstacles that hinder the protection of human rights in our countries.
As reported by the press service of the RA HRD, Tatoyan, in particular, noted the need for the immediate return of the Armenian prisoners of war illegally held by Azerbaijan, stating that they are being held for political reasons, violating the norms of international law.
He also separately touched upon gross violations by the Azerbaijani armed forces of the rights of Armenian military personnel and civilians, including the issue of responsibility for torture and atrocities.
It was noted that the Azerbaijani authorities are spreading Armenophobic policies and actively supporting hostility towards Armenians around the world, keeping the two peoples in suspense, endangering the human rights system in other countries and maintaining a tense environment. And it was precisely the result of this policy that torture and atrocities took place during and after the war.
The negative impact of COVID-19 on people, the rights of women and children, and the participation of human rights institutions in international organizations have also been a topic of discussion.
