ArmInfo. The RA Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports, represented by Minister Vahram Dumanyan, has no information that the Armenian authorities are interested in opening Russian schools in the republic. Dumanyan said this at a briefing on October 21 after a government meeting.
Earlier, according to TASS, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, speaking at the Seventh World Congress of Russian Compatriots Living Abroad, said that five Russian schools will open in Tajikistan as part of an initiative to strengthen the position of the Russian language, similar programs are being prepared for Uzbekistan, interest in Armenia is also involved in the project. "Five Russian schools are being establised including on the initiative of [Federation Council Speaker] Valentina Matvienko, with a full program of training according to our methodology in Tajikistan. Now a similar program is being prepared for Uzbekistan. Recently, the new Armenian leadership has shown interest in ensuring that the same program to do for Armenia, "the minister said.
Today, the person responsible for the Armenian education sector first stated that "he never found, did not record the statement of the leadership of the Armenian government that it is going to open new Russian schools in the republic" on the Internet. He also did not find "information in this wording" from the lips of high-ranking officials of the Russian Federation, in particular, the head of the Foreign Ministry.
The information, as explained by the head of the Ministry of Education and Science, was somewhat different. "The interest, its manifestation, may have been in certain programs. I personally did not communicate with Mr. Lavrov," he said, adding that any program is worthy of attention. "Rest assured, at present there is no such issue on our agenda," the minister assured, noting that the Armenian authorities are interested in popularizing foreign languages, including the Russian language.
