ArmInfo.Official Tbilisi will continue to promote the idea of the Georgian platform of Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili. This opinion was expressed by Expert in Georgian studies Johnny Melikyan.
However, he is convinced that Georgia will not create obstacles in the implementation of the "3 + 3" platform, if Yerevan agrees.
"Today's statement by the head of the Georgian Foreign Ministry means that if Armenia agrees to the Turkish "3 + 3" initiative, then official Tbilisi will not obstruct its implementation, and will even participate in it to some extent. "Although this is not very to the liking of the Georgian side," the expert believes.
According to him, official Tbilisi has already put forward its initiative and is promoting it. "But Georgia does not want to become a destructive side, if everyone agrees on "3 + 3" ", he summed up.
Earlier, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Georgia David Zalkaliani, responding to the statement of Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, who proposed the format of regional cooperation "3 + 3" with the participation of Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia on the one hand and Iran, Russia and Turkey, on the other, noted, that it will be difficult for Georgia to participate in the "3 + 3" format together with Russia, but nevertheless, the country should be represented at least in some form in major geopolitical projects.
"Of course, when we do not see any processes in the direction of de-occupation, it is very difficult to participate in such a format and talk about some kind of infrastructure projects. Nevertheless, I want to provide the public with such a position to think- we should be represented at least in some form in these large geopolitical projects and relations, of course, not at the expense of state interests and some concessions to the occupier, "Zalkaliani said.
Recently, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov at a press conference with Iran's Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian said that an initiative "to create a "3 + 3" format: three Transcaucasian countries and their three large neighbors - Russia, Iran and Turkey," was discussed
Lavrov noted that Iran has a positive attitude towards this initiative, as do Turkey and Azerbaijan. He noted that the Russian Federation is working with Armenian colleagues. According to him, the Russian side expects that Georgia, despite the problems it is experiencing, will be able to see its interest in creating such a mechanism.
To recall, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili, during his speech at the 76th session of the UN General Assembly, proposed to world leaders a "peaceful neighborhood initiative" to ensure peace and stability in the Black Sea region. As the Georgian prime minister noted then, Tbilisi is ready to host the first meeting within the framework of the peace initiative. According to him, the new format will help build a dialogue and will be a practical solution to regional issues. Later, the head of government said that Georgia came up with an initiative to create a platform in Tbilisi for high-level contacts between the Armenian and Azerbaijani sides.
