ArmInfo. The Civil Aviation Committee (CAC) does not willing to comment on the information of the Azerbaijani AZAL airline on the start of using the airspace of Armenia for carrying out passenger flights from Baku to Nakhichevan. Attempts by the Armenian media to get at least some information about this have not yet been successful.
ArmInfo correspondent was informed by CAC at 11.30 that the Committee will make a statement on this matter later. It should be reminded that the first flight of the "Turkish Airlines" Nakhichevan-Ganja through the airspace of Armenia was carried out on September 8, Azerbaijani airlines did not receive such a right. It has happened since today and it is not known whether this concession to Armenia will be of a mutual nature.
Meanwhile, the report of the AZAL - Azerbaijan Airlines notes that "this step demonstrates Azerbaijan's decisive readiness to unblock transport communications in the region, which meets the interests of all border countries." "From now on, when performing this flight, AZAL will be able to use all existing air corridors, including those passing through the territories of Armenia and Iran," the airline said in a statement.
It became known on Tuesday that the Iranian authorities have closed the air corridor to Nakhichevan for the military transport aviation of Azerbaijan. Azerbaijani media, citing sources in the defense sector, reported that the ban would not have an impact on the supply of units of the republic's armed forces stationed in this exclave. As stated in the TASS information, Azerbaijan and Armenia did not formally close the airspace over their territories for the airlines of the two countries. Nevertheless, since the beginning of the 1990s, due to the conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh, Azerbaijani air carriers did not use air corridors over Armenia, and Armenian ones over Azerbaijan.
